Fall is here!

Well, talk about having gaps in your blog!! I feels good to be back! Where should I begin?

First of all, I have some time to do this because I had surgery last week, and it has slooooowed me down! This surgery has forced me to look at some thinks in my like that I need to arrainge in order of priorty! The health of Steve and I are first. We have gone so fast for so long that we push through the aches and pains of everyday life to what? Another day of the same? The last blog I wrote, when we had the day off for Knox's birthday was the last day we had had off until the day of my surgery. There is seriously something wrong with that, and I am going to change it.

The restaurant is flurishing! It has just been a joy to watch it grow! We watch for our regulars to come in so we can hear the next chapter of thier lives-how is the new horse responding to training? How was the vacation with the grand kids? How is back to school going? Our crew is doing well! We have a new baby in the mix as our head cook, Aura, had a baby girl in July. We have a new crew mwmber Phyliss, who I taught to make all our Salads and Sandwiches! We are a pretty tight bunch, and we all get along well. I'm so grateful for that, as that means that we all concentrate on taking care of our customers.

I started a new salad line in May, and it took off with a shot, and has not slowed down yet! People LOVE salads! Now I'm working on a line of new sandwiches for the fall and winter. I'm excited about it and we should be ready to go in a few weeks.

Well, it's time for a nap! LOL! I'll try to write more often!

Spring

Wow! I just read back and realized that it's been over a month, and my elbow isn't any better. That sucks. But Spring is finaly here, and forward we will go. The bake room is picking up, as is the whole restaurant, and I am sooooo grateful. We hear everyday of how other restaurants are struggling and not making it, and we count our blessings, bless our struggles, sweep the floor for another day, and thank God. I had a day off today to celebrate Knox, my grandsons birthday. It felt so good to be off for a day. It gives you a head break, and I get inspired to try new things. I get so inspired by getting a day off, I should take more!

I have a whopping case of "tennis elbow" which makes each day a challange. Another challange is ongoing catering that we are doing, and the folks don't know thier own schedule. We have reservation only Valentines Dinner on Sunday. My "weekend" was 6 hours long this week, and we start the marathon tomorrow. Give me strength.

Into another weekend, and kitchen is still shakey. Smaller numbers on the catering this weekend, but the weather is so terrible that numbers are off. We start breakfast in the morning, and I'm excited about that, even though I'm not a morning person. Bake room help was a no show, made for a very busy day. Screwed up my elbow, I'm the 1st in line at the chiro in the morning! Lord, help me keep going. I need a boost.

Ok, so today was a good day! Sales sucked, but all can not be measured by the dollar. We are still getting new people every day. People who are sent from word of mouth! So we have to hang on, and dig in. We're in this for the long haul.

The Weekend

Wow what a weekend. The manager was gone to a funeral, one cook quit, one cook was out to the hospital,2 were brand new,(OMG) and we had a major catering job at the horse arena all weekend! The partners were MIA, and Steve and I pulled a 14 hour on Thursday, 16 hour on Friday, 17 hour on Saturday, and another 10 hour on Sunday. By Sunday 8 PM, we were on our butts in a comatose state. The semi was parked in front of the restaurant full of merchandise for the peanut building, and I am telling myself that I can pull energy out of my butt to start all over Tomorrow(Monday) morning. Will let you know how that works out!
